Emotional Seasons
A love letter to farm life and the slow turn of the seasons.
Emotional Seasons: The Soundtrack of Bet the Farm
Overview:Written for the GameOff22 game “Bet the Farm”, this soundtrack is a love letter to farm life and the slow turn of the seasons. I took my cues from the game’s story and Nez’s beautiful concept art, aiming to give players something that feels warm, lived-in, and quietly magical as they work the land, problem-solve, and settle into the rhythm of the farm.
Instrumentation:
The palette is mostly acoustic, chosen to feel earthy and human. Fiddle and flute lead the melodies, with guitar and mandolin filling out the harmony and pulse. You’ll also hear bagpipes for a more haunting colour, plus the homemade Nerdy-Gurdy, which adds a slightly quirky, tactile character that fits the world perfectly.
Track Breakdown:
Spring: Gentle, sweet, and full of that first-breath-of-the-year feeling. It’s meant to sound like the farm waking up again, with light returning and everything starting to bloom.
Summer: A proper farmers dance, bright and busy. Faster, more rhythmic, and a bit playful, like long days, full paddocks, and constant motion.
Autumn: More reflective and a little bittersweet. It’s the shift into harvest time, with warmer colours, shorter days, and that quiet nostalgia that comes with change.
Winter: Sparse, still, and chilly in the best way. A calmer piece that leans into the silence of the season, like the whole farm taking a pause under a blanket of snow.
Composer’s Note:
“Emotional Seasons” isn’t just background music, it’s part of the game’s atmosphere and storytelling. My goal was to create a tranquil, joyful backdrop that helps you feel more connected to the place and the people in it. I hope it gives you a bit of comfort and warmth, and that you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.
