Bet the Farm
Original score for a strategy card game about inheritance, farm management, and seasonal progression, created for GameOff22.
Bet the Farm
Bet the Farm is a strategy card game built around inheritance, risk, and farm management. You play as Yara's only child, tasked with taking over the family business while dealing with an uncle who owns half the company and will only sell his share if you can prove, within four in-game years, that you can run the farm successfully.
PlayThe project was created for GameOff22, where the game's audio placed #14 out of 561 submissions and received a special mention. I composed the soundtrack as part of a 13-person team, focusing on a musical identity that would support the game's relaxed pacing while still giving each season its own emotional shape.
After seeing the concept art by Nez, the direction became clear: the score needed to feel warm, grounded, and acoustic, with a sense of place that could carry the player through planning, harvesting, setbacks, and quiet wins.
I worked with a deliberately reduced palette, centering the melodies around fiddle and flute, then building the harmony and texture with guitar, mandolin, bagpipes, and my homemade Nerdy-Gurdy. The intention was to keep the soundtrack organic and characterful, so that it felt connected to the land and the changing seasons rather than simply sitting behind the gameplay.
The score was structured around four seasonal themes: a gentle, blooming spring cue; a livelier summer dance; a more reflective autumn piece; and a sparse, colder winter track. Together, they define the emotional arc of the game and help reinforce its cyclical rhythm.
